About the Role

A well-established law firm based in Musgrave, Durban is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Legal Secretary to support one of the firm’s Directors in a litigation-focused practice. This role is ideal for a proactive, highly organised individual who takes pride in accuracy, client service, and meeting deadlines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Providing full secretarial support to a Director (litigation-focused)
  • Dictaphone typing of legal documents, correspondence, and pleadings
  • Drafting and preparing litigation documents including affidavits, warrants of execution, notices, and related documentation
  • Managing the Director’s diary, deadlines, and follow-ups
  • General legal administration and file management
  • Ensuring all work is checked carefully for accuracy before submission
  • Following up on matters proactively using established procedures
  • Handling incoming calls from time to time in a professional, polite, and client-focused manner
  • Liaising with clients in a courteous and helpful manner
  • Using initiative to ensure matters are progressed efficiently
  • Meeting strict legal deadlines consistently

Requirements

  • 4–5 years’ experience as a Legal Secretary (litigation experience essential)
  • Strong dictaphone typing skills
  • Solid understanding of basic litigation procedures
  • High attention to detail with excellent proofreading ability
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills
  • Ability to work independently and use initiative
  • Confident and professional client communication skills
  • Ability to work well in a small firm environment
