About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join our team as an Electrical & Printer Assistant in Pinetown. As an assistant to qualified Electricians/Technicians, you will be responsible for performing a range of tasks to support preventative maintenance, repairs, and installations. Key Responsibilities
- Fault Finding & Repairs: Assist qualified Electricians/Technicians during breakdowns and repairs.
- Routine Electrical Maintenance Support: Perform PPM tasks such as panel cleaning, tightening terminals, inspecting components, and labelling.
- Date Coding Equipment: Assist with cleaning printer heads and basic fault finding, conduct daily/weekly equipment checks, and support OEM technicians during on-site visits.
- Installations & Modifications: Help route and secure cables, trunking, conduit, and trays, assist with mounting sensors, junction boxes, DB accessories, and other devices under supervision.
- Mechanical & Cross-Functional Support: Assist mechanical technicians with basic tasks, identify issues as mechanical or electrical, and report accordingly.
- Pneumatic Systems Support: Check electrical connections to solenoid valves, pressure switches, and sensors, trace pneumatic and hydraulic lines alongside electrical cables under supervision.
- Learning & Skills Development: Participate in on-the-job training, develop understanding of basic electrical principles, safe work practices, pneumatics, and PLC awareness.
- Health, Safety & Environment (HSE): Follow all safety rules, PPE requirements, and lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) procedures, maintain clean and safe work areas and report hazards immediately.
- Tools, Housekeeping & Administration: Care for tools, equipment, and test instruments; return items after use, keep work areas, panels, and stores organized, assist with basic documentation.
- Teamwork & Conduct: Follow instructions from Electricians and Technicians, maintain punctuality, attendance, and a learning-focused attitude, communicate clearly and ask questions to build understanding.
Requirements
Basic knowledge of electrical systems and components
Mechanical aptitude and curiosity about machines
Awareness of pneumatics and PLC input/output concepts
Ability to use hand tools safely
Attention to detail, neat workmanship, and pride in work
Good communication, teamwork, reliability, and a positive attitude
Qualifications
Grade 12 (Matric) with Mathematics & Physical Science OR N2 / N3 in Electrical, Electro-Mechanical, or related field OR Technical/Electro-Mechanical college background with basic electrical knowledge.
