About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer with a strong background in mechanical design and project engineering to join our client’s team in Cape Town City Centre. The ideal candidate will apply their expertise to custom process equipment and water treatment plants, driving innovation and reducing costs while ensuring technical codes and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead mechanical engineering with a minimum of 15 years experience and project engineering with 6 years experience.
- Design custom pieces of process equipment, perform FEA on structural members, and verify code and regulatory compliance.
- Generate mechanical design drawings, plant layouts, pipe routing, and 3D models for containerized plants.
- Coordinate different engineering disciplines and manage mechanical, civil, and other subcontracts from procurement to commissioning.
- Execute project engineering activities within budgeted schedules and in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act of South Africa.
- Conduct site and shop visits to inspect progress, perform punching and snagging, and witness factory or site acceptance testing.
- Support the Project Manager by reviewing project schedules, providing progress reports, and estimating costs for contract changes.
Requirements
- BSc (Mechanical) or B Eng (Mechanical) degree.
- 15 years minimum experience in Mechanical Engineering.
- 6 years minimum experience in Project Engineering and Management.
- Valid Drivers License.
- Knowledge in chemical and water treatment plant design, fabrication, testing, and commissioning.
- Ability to meet deadlines, work within a multi-disciplinary team, and provide professional service to clients.
Qualifications
- Professional Engineering registration (Pr.Eng – ECSA) is beneficial.
