Responsibilities:

• Supervising a monthly accounting department including preparation and review of monthly management accounts, timely submission of statutory returns, and assisting clients with accounting and software support.
• Preparing and reviewing Annual Financial Statements using IFRS for SMEs.
• Dealing with clients and correspondence.
• Managing and training junior staff and SAIPA trainees.

Requirements:

• Completed SAIPA or SAICA articles or similar experience
• Company and individual tax knowledge essential
• Previous experience in a similar environment
• Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines
• Very high attention to detail
• Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
• Own transport (including valid SA driver’s licence)

Software requirements:

• Pastel Partner and Sage One experience

• Ensure accurate and timely recording, coding, and processing of financial transactions in accordance with company policies and accounting principles.
• Maintain general ledger accounts and reconcile balance sheet accounts to ensure accuracy and completeness.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
• Assist in the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and financial plans.
• Analyze financial data and support management decision-making by providing insights and recommendations for improvement.
• Support the finance team in managing financial audits and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and accounting standards.
• Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to resolve accounting discrepancies and provide necessary information for audits and financial reporting.
• Participate in the development and implementation of financial policies, procedures, and controls to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
• Provide guidance and support to junior accounting staff as needed.
• Stay up-to-date with changes in accounting regulations and best practices to ensure compliance and make recommendations for improvement.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Proven work experience as an Accountant or in a similar role.
• In-depth knowledge of South African accounting standards and regulations.
• Strong proficiency in accounting software and MS Office, particularly Excel.
