About the Role

BASE RENEWABLES is seeking an experienced Commissioning Manager to join our team in Cape Town City Centre. As a key member of our EPC team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient commissioning of our solar plants. The successful candidate will have excellent technical leadership skills, strong communication abilities, and a proven track record in managing complex commissioning projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage detailed commissioning plans, schedules, and procedures
  • Coordinate commissioning activities across EPC teams, OEMs, utilities, and clients
  • Define commissioning sequences, test protocols, and acceptance criteria
  • Oversee commissioning of MV & HV switchgear, transformers, inverters, balance-of-plant systems, protection relays and settings, SCADA and control plant systems
  • Review, witness, and approve test results and commissioning documentation
  • Act as HV Responsible Person / ORHVS holder and manage HV permits, isolation, switching, and energisation
  • Manage grid compliance testing and utility witness testing
  • Liaise with Eskom / municipal utilities / IPPs
  • Resolve non-compliances and technical issues affecting energisation or COD
  • Lead and supervise commissioning engineers, technicians, and subcontractors
  • Coordinate OEM representatives and specialist testing teams
  • Provide clear technical direction and decision-making during commissioning

Requirements

  • Strong technical knowledge of electrical systems, including MV & HV switchgear, transformers, inverters, and balance-of-plant systems
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills
  • Proven experience in managing complex commissioning projects
  • Ability to work effectively with EPC teams, OEMs, utilities, and clients
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with grid compliance testing and utility witness testing

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field (LLB or Matric not required)
  • Relevant experience in commissioning electrical systems
  • HV Responsible Person / ORHVS certification (desirable)
