About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Lead Mechanical Engineer to lead and manage a team of mechanical design engineers in Cape Town City Centre. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing technical guidance, mentorship, and oversight to support team performance and development, while also engaging with clients to understand project requirements and align engineering outputs accordingly.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and oversight to support team performance and development
  • Engage with clients to understand project requirements and align engineering outputs accordingly
  • Plan, allocate, and optimise engineering resources across multiple projects
  • Manage project timelines, ensuring milestones are achieved and deviations are communicated proactively
  • Lead internal and external design reviews to ensure technical accuracy and compliance
  • Ensure all designs meet required specifications, standards, and quality expectations
  • Oversee CAD design activities, including 3D modelling and 2D drawing creation
  • Maintain accurate and structured product data within PDM systems
  • Support custom engineering requests and prioritise deliverables effectively
  • Drive continuous improvement in design processes, quality, and operational efficiency
  • Handle administrative responsibilities including reporting, documentation, and performance management

Requirements

  • 15 years mechanical design experience
  • Proven team leadership in engineering/design environments
  • Strong project and task management skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • High attention to detail with a quality-driven mindset
  • Advanced MS Excel and computer literacy
  • Experience with CAD and PDM systems
  • Exposure to AI/digital engineering tools advantageous
