About the Role

The Head of Mining Operations will be responsible for overseeing all mining operations in Pretoria, ensuring optimal performance, safety, and regulatory compliance. The successful candidate will bring extensive experience in senior leadership roles, operational optimisation, and risk management to this critical position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage multiple mining operations or sites simultaneously
  • Implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency
  • Develop and execute strategic plans for mining operations
  • Oversee contractor-driven mining operations and production fleets
  • Ensure compliance with MHSA legislation and regulatory frameworks
  • Foster a culture of safety, risk management, and people leadership across multi-site operations

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering
  • Mine Managers Certificate of Competency (MMC)
  • Eligibility for 4.1 legal appointment in terms of the MHSA
  • Minimum 10 years experience within mining operations
  • Minimum 5 years experience in a senior leadership role such as Mine Manager or Operations Manager
  • Proven experience within open-cast mining operations
  • Exposure to copper and/or manganese mining operations is highly advantageous

Qualifications

  • Blasting Certificate (Open Cast)
  • Advanced Mine Planning certifications such as Deswik or Datamine
  • Project Management certifications such as PMP or PRINCE2
  • MBA or Management Development Programme qualification
