About the Role

SA Metal Group is seeking a highly experienced and skilled National Procurement Manager to join our team in Cape Town. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing and developing procurement strategies, maintaining supplier relationships, ensuring cost efficiency, and supporting operational excellence across SA Metal Group. As a key member of our leadership team, you will play a crucial role in negotiating multi-million Rand agreements at a national level and overseeing the effective procurement process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain documented standards for procurement and processes to minimize procurement risk
  • Develop and implement organizational procurement capacity through training and support to staff
  • Provide operational support and advice to leadership, management, and staff on procurement matters
  • Ensure procurement activities contribute towards efficiency, cost saving, and profitability
  • Liaise with other departments to establish and support their requirements
  • Monitor and improve the company’s procurement and inventory systems and processes
  • Facilitate expenditure reviews to identify opportunities for value addition through improved procurement
  • Research new legislation and amendments to ensure validity and applicability of conditions of purchase
  • Manage the procurement of goods and services in accordance with the Procurement Policy, procedures, and relevant guidelines
  • Meet with suppliers to negotiate terms of contracts, rates, and prices
  • Ability to negotiate high-value contracts
  • Experience in successfully managing inventory, stores, and stock management
  • Knowledge of MRP
  • Monthly reporting to Exco management

Requirements

  • Relevant Degree/Diploma in Procurement Management/Inventory Management
  • Minimum ten years’ previous experience in a senior managerial position in a production/engineering environment
  • MS Office Suite – intermediate
  • Recent ACCPAC experience essential
  • Knowledge of Fraxion ordering system is advantageous
  • Financial knowledge and background

Qualifications

  • Relevant Degree/Diploma in Procurement Management/Inventory Management
  • Com or a Project Management qualification may be an added advantage
  • Minimum ten years’ previous experience in a senior managerial position in a production/engineering environment
