About the Role
Medium sized national consulting engineering firm specializing in civil, structural, mechanical and electrical engineering services as well as project management and environmental consulting is seeking an Electrical Engineer or Technologist for their Cape Town office. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in building services projects and electrical engineering, with experience in urban and rural reticulation and distribution projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct scoping and condition assessments and follow them with detailed reporting.
- Plan, design, and administer contracts from inception to completion for building services and civil engineering projects.
- Compile and deliver comprehensive reports at all project stages, including Project Inception, Concept and Viability, Design, tender evaluation, progress, financial status, and project close-out.
- Manage the day-to-day administration associated with active projects.
- Design electrical building services, urban and rural reticulation and distribution, as well as electrical elements of engineering projects.
- Prepare tender documents.
- Administer electrical engineering contracts and act as the Engineers Representative as defined by the contract terms.
- Provide construction oversight, ensure quality control, and facilitate the clarification of design-related issues.
- Monitor construction progress to guarantee design adherence and quality, and expedite design clarifications as needed.
- Address technical queries, resolve issues, and lead site and technical meetings, including preparing meeting minutes.
- Review contractors’ Quality Control Plans and Construction Method Statements to ensure compliance and quality.
- Prepare payment valuations and measure electrical and electronic installations.
- Maintain frequent communication with all project professionals and clients.
- Assist in resolving technical queries in collaboration with other stakeholders.
- Support project safety and environmental compliance throughout the construction phase.
- Undertake general office and project-related administrative tasks as required.
Requirements
- Possess at least a B.Eng, B.Sc(Eng), or B.Tech Eng. Degree in electrical engineering.
- Have between two (2) and five (5) years of post-graduate experience.
- Demonstrate experience in the design and management of building services projects and engineering projects.
- Have experience with municipal building service projects, including electrical, electronic, solar photovoltaic systems, and fire detection systems.
- Show proven experience in urban and rural reticulation and distribution projects.
- Have a background in Health, Education, and Public Works projects.
Qualifications
- Building Information Modelling (BIM) software, particularly ACC Docs, ACC Build, and ACC Collaborate Pro.
- Proficient in Relux lighting design; experience with Dialux is advantageous.
- Proficient in Autocad; experience with Revit MEP is advantageous.
- Own transport and a valid drivers license.
