About the Role
The Key Recruitment Group, a well-established and growing company involved in the maintenance and provision of equipment to the marine and oil & gas industries, seeks to employ a graduate Mechanical Engineer at their premises near Bothasig.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee multiple projects, including your own and provide guidance.
- Mentor junior mechanical engineers and technicians.
- Gain a fundamental understanding of the design, operation, inspection and repair of Capital Drilling Equipment as well as all the processes and procedures.
- Conduct in-house design and development, including strength calculations (from first principles) and FEA/Simulation, 3D CAD modelling and drawing using SolidWorks, manufacturing data pack generation (incl. BOM’s, QCP’s, Works Instructions, Manuals).
- Manage design and development Projects, from inception through to delivery, ensuring adherence to company policies and procedures.
- Give expert technical advice to Technicians as well as coaching.
- Monitor compliance to applicable codes, practices, QC policies, procedures, and specifications.
- Provide detailed reporting and inspection report reviews; regular report and feedback to Management and the Customer on the progress of project.
- Review engineering deliverables and initiate appropriate corrective actions; draft new procedures as required.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (B. Eng or B. Sc) ESSENTIAL
- 3-6 years relevant experience, preferably in heavy engineering
- Excellent level of English, both written and verbal
- Sound understanding of 3D CAD packages, particularly SolidWorks
- Sound understanding of FEA Software, including SolidWorks Simulation and/or Abaqus (advantageous)
- Sound understanding of Engineering Calculations Software, including Mathcad, MATLAB or similar (advantageous)
- Exposure to ASME VIII, API and Class Rules (ABS & DNV) in respect of design and manufacture (advantageous)
- Sound understanding of fabrication, boiler making/welding, precision machining
