About the Role
The Mechanical Design & Manufacturing Technician will support the Design Mechanical Engineer in the design, detailing, and manufacturing execution of fluid transfer systems, including pumps, pipework, heavy-duty bases, skids, and pontoons used in dewatering and industrial applications. This role requires a hands-on individual who takes ownership of their work, ensures drawings are buildable, supports fabrication through inspections and quality checks, and acts as a go-to person between engineering and manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce accurate manufacturing and assembly drawings from engineering concepts and layouts
- Generate: Fabrication drawings (plates, frames, pontoons, bases), Assembly drawings, Part lists and BOMs
- Apply practical manufacturing knowledge to ensure drawings are fit for fabrication, welding, and assembly
- Maintain drawing revisions and document control
- Act as the engineering point of contact for the workshop
- Clarify drawings, tolerances, weld details, and materials during fabrication
- Proactively identify design or manufacturing issues and propose solutions
- Assist with shop-floor problem solving to keep projects moving
- Perform in-process inspections of manufactured components
- Verify: Dimensional accuracy, Weld quality (visual), Material compliance
- Flag non-conformances and assist with corrective actions
- Support final inspection before delivery
Requirements
- Proficiency in 2D and 3D CAD software (e.g. SolidWorks, Inventor, Fusion, AutoCAD, or similar)
- Strong understanding of: Mechanical fabrication, Welding and structural steel design principles, Machined components
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications
- Familiarity with pumps, piping, flanges, and industrial equipment (advantage)
