Job Description

Role Purpose The Accounting Manager is responsible for taking full ownership of the Finance and Accounts department, ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant financial management across the organisation. The role focuses on maintaining financial integrity, overseeing day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring compliance with statutory and company requirements, and providing financial insights to support strategic decision-making. The incumbent will work closely with senior management, auditors, and cross-functional departments to drive profitability, cost control, and financial transparency. Key Responsibilities Operations & Governance Manage and oversee all financial operations, ensuring compliance with regulatory and internal standards. Oversee daily operations of the Finance and Accounts department. Ensure compliance with accounting standards, SARS regulations, and company policies. Maintain accurate financial records, general ledger, and reporting structures. Manage VAT submissions (VAT201), audits, and related compliance. Oversee payroll processes including EMP201 and EMP501 submissions. Maintain fixed asset registers and depreciation schedules. Manage company statutory records including share registers and annual returns. Ensure accurate reconciliation of bank accounts, credit cards, and petty cash. Oversee month-end close processes including accruals and prepayments. Accounts Receivable & Payable Ensure efficient cash flow management and accurate handling of receivables and payables. Manage accounts receivable, including collections and customer account management. Oversee accounts payable to ensure timely and optimised vendor payments. Ensure accurate invoicing across projects, inter-company, and general sales. Monitor customer and supplier accounts, ensuring accuracy and compliance with credit terms. Manage onboarding and validation of new customers and suppliers. Ensure statements and remittances are issued timeously. Budgeting & Forecasting Support financial planning and ensure alignment with business objectives. Develop and monitor budgets and forecasts. Track departmental spending against financial targets. Forecast costs including materials, labour, and overheads. Support financial planning through data-driven insights. Cost & Variance Analysis Drive cost control and operational efficiency through detailed analysis. Maintain cost accounting systems for manufacturing operations. Analyse cost structures including materials, labour, and overheads. Conduct variance analysis and recommend corrective actions. Monitor inventory valuation, WIP, and stock reconciliation. Identify inefficiencies, wastage, and cost-saving opportunities. Perform cost-volume-profit (CVP) analysis. Efficiency & Cost Improvement Improve operational performance and profitability. Analyse production processes to identify inefficiencies. Recommend automation or outsourcing opportunities. Provide financial insights to guide capital investment decisions. Drive continuous improvement initiatives across operations. Product & Profitability Analysis Support pricing and strategic decision-making. Analyse product costing and profitability. Determine pricing strategies based on cost and margin analysis. Evaluate product line performance and recommend improvements. Identify new revenue opportunities and assess feasibility. Reporting Deliver accurate and meaningful financial insights to stakeholders. Prepare monthly management accounts and financial reports. Compile audit packs and support audit processes. Provide financial models and insights for decision-making. Report on performance, risks, and opportunities to senior management. General Administration Ensure efficient documentation and financial recordkeeping. Maintain proper filing and documentation systems. Ensure all financial documents are accurately recorded and stored. Perform general administrative and ad-hoc duties as required. Role Requirements Qualifications Matric / Grade 12 (essential). Diploma in Accounting (essential). Advanced Microsoft Excel certification (essential). Certificates in Cost & Management Accounting, Inventory Management, Operations Management, Project Management, Supply Chain, or Credit Management advantageous. Experience 35 years experience in a manufacturing, engineering, or steel industry environment. Experience working with ERP systems (e.g., Sage, Pastel, Syspro, SAP, Oracle). Exposure to costing systems and financial management within production environments. Experience in valves, piping, or fabrication industries advantageous. Technical Competencies Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting. Advanced Excel and data analysis skills. Knowledge of costing systems in manufacturing environments. Understanding of inventory and landed costing. Knowledge of multi-currency and intercompany transactions. Experience with CRM systems and tender processes. Behavioural Competencies Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. High attention to detail and accuracy. Strong leadership and communication skills. Ability to work independently and within a team. Ability to perform under pressure and meet deadlines. Strong organisational and planning ability. Additional Requirements Valid drivers licence and own reliable transport. Willingness to work overtime when required. Residing within a reasonable proximity to Modderfontein.
