About the Role

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) position at iStaff (Pty) Ltd is a critical role that requires strong leadership, financial, and operational expertise to drive business growth and expansion plans. The successful candidate will have relevant experience in manufacturing or processing, with a strong background in food/FMCG, export standards, automation, and ERP systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee intake, grading, packing, storage, and dispatch
  • Improve production flow, efficiency, and output
  • Implement continuous improvement and reduce waste
  • Manage equipment performance, maintenance, and seasonal scaling
  • Ensure adherence to food safety and certification standards
  • Manage audits, traceability, and quality improvements
  • Maintain cold-chain integrity and handling standards
  • Lead and develop pack house teams
  • Oversee staffing, training, and performance
  • Promote a strong safety and accountability culture
  • Control budgets and operational costs
  • Monitor margins, labour, and overheads
  • Support capital investment decisions and ROI analysis
  • Work with sales and logistics to meet customer requirements
  • Support pricing, packaging, and product mix decisions
  • Maintain service levels and key client relationships
  • Implement and improve operational systems and KPIs
  • Provide accurate reporting and data-driven insights
  • Contribute to business growth and expansion plans
  • Drive automation and operational improvements

Requirements

Relevant degree or diploma (Operations, Engineering, Business, etc.)

8–10 years’ senior experience in manufacturing or processing

Strong leadership, financial, and operational expertise

Experience in food/FMCG, export standards, automation, and ERP systems
