About the Role
We are seeking a skilled Electrical Designer to join our engineering team, specializing in mining vehicles and mobile equipment. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining electrical systems for underground and surface mining machinery, ensuring compliance with industry standards and safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop electrical systems for mining vehicles (loaders, dump trucks, drills, etc.)
- Create and update electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and layouts
- Select and specify electrical components (PLC systems, sensors, harnesses, control panels)
- Collaborate with mechanical and software engineers on integrated systems
- Ensure compliance with mining safety standards and regulations
- Support prototype builds, testing, and commissioning
- Troubleshoot and improve existing electrical systems in the field
- Prepare technical documentation and reports
Requirements
- Diploma or Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
- 3–7 years’ experience in electrical design (mining or heavy equipment preferred)
- Proficiency in CAD tools (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN)
- Knowledge of PLCs and control systems
- Understanding of mining equipment and harsh-environment design
- Familiarity with relevant standards (SANS, IEC, ISO)
