Job Description

Job Purpose To maintain, repair, install, and improve mechanical equipment within the steel tube manufacturing plant to ensure maximum uptime, reliability, and safe operation. The Fitter & Turner will play a key role in preventative maintenance, breakdown response, and continuous improvement initiatives. Key Responsibilities 1. Mechanical Maintenance & Repairs Diagnose and repair mechanical faults on production lines and auxiliary equipment Strip, inspect, refurbish, and rebuild gearboxes and rotating equipment Maintain and repair pumps, bearings, shafts, couplings, and drive systems Perform precision alignment of motors, gearboxes, and drive systems Conduct preventative maintenance as per maintenance schedules 2. Hydraulics & Pneumatics Fault finding and repair of hydraulic power packs, cylinders, valves, and piping Maintenance of pneumatic control systems, actuators, and air lines Leak detection and system pressure troubleshooting Ensure hydraulic and pneumatic systems operate safely and efficiently 3. Overhead Cranes & Lifting Equipment Mechanical maintenance and inspection of overhead cranes Service brakes, wheels, gear drives, and lifting components Ensure compliance with safety standards and inspections Assist with load testing and commissioning when required 4. Machining & Fabrication Operate manual lathes, milling machines, drilling machines, and grinders Manufacture and modify components to required tolerances Perform welding (MIG, TIG, ARC, oxy-acetylene cutting) Fabricate and repair steel components and structures Maintain workshop equipment in good working condition 5. Engineering & Technical Skills Read and interpret mechanical drawings and schematics Use SolidWorks drawings for component manufacturing and modification Understand steel properties and material selection Maintain accurate job records and maintenance reports 6. Safety & Compliance Follow plant safety procedures and lock-out systems Ensure safe use of lifting equipment and workshop tools Maintain high housekeeping standards in workshop and plant areas Report hazards and implement corrective actions Minimum Requirements Trade Tested Fitter & Turner Strong mechanical fault-finding skills Experience with gearboxes, hydraulics, pneumatics, pumps, and cranes Manual machining experience (lathe & milling) Welding experience (all types advantageous) Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings SolidWorks exposure advantageous Valid drivers license (advantageous) Competencies & Attributes Strong problem-solving ability Hands-on and practical mindset Ability to work under pressure and during breakdowns Good communication skills (read, write, speak clearly) Reliable, disciplined, and safety-focused Team player with strong work ethic Self-motivated and goal-driven
