Guesthouse Manager (Live-in)
Location: Hermanus, Western Cape
Property: 4-Star Guesthouse

Accommodation: Live-in position with on-site accommodation provided
Position Overview
We are seeking a professional, hands-on, and guest-focused Guesthouse Manager to oversee the daily operations of our 4-star guesthouse in Hermanus. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring exceptional guest experiences, maintaining high hospitality standards, managing staff, and driving the overall performance and reputation of the establishment.
Key Responsibilities
Guest Experience & Customer Service
- Welcome and check in guests in a professional and friendly manner.
- Ensure all guests receive exceptional service throughout their stay.
- Address guest requests, concerns, and complaints promptly and effectively.
- Manage guest communications via email, telephone, and online booking platforms.
- Maintain high guest satisfaction ratings and positive online reviews.
Operations Management
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the guesthouse.
- Ensure all guest rooms and public areas meet 4-star quality standards.
- Monitor housekeeping, maintenance, and property presentation.
- Conduct regular inspections to ensure cleanliness and functionality.
- Coordinate room allocations and occupancy planning.
Staff Management
- Supervise and support housekeeping, maintenance, and other operational staff.
- Manage staff schedules, attendance, and performance.
- Provide training and ongoing coaching to maintain service standards.
- Foster a positive and professional working environment.
Reservations & Administration
- Manage reservations and bookings through property management systems and online travel agencies.
- Monitor room availability, rates, and occupancy levels.
- Handle guest invoicing, payments, and reconciliations.
- Maintain accurate guest records and operational reports.
- Prepare monthly occupancy and performance reports for ownership.
Financial Management
- Assist with budgeting and cost control.
- Monitor operational expenses and identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Manage petty cash and daily financial transactions.
- Ensure revenue is accurately recorded and reported.
Property Maintenance
- Coordinate routine and preventative maintenance.
- Liaise with contractors and service providers when required.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and hospitality regulations.
- Maintain the overall appearance and functionality of the property and grounds.
Marketing & Business Development
- Support marketing initiatives and social media activities.
- Monitor online reviews and respond appropriately.
- Assist in developing strategies to increase occupancy and revenue.
- Build relationships with local tourism operators and service providers.
Minimum Requirements
- Minimum 35 years’ experience in hospitality, guesthouse, lodge, boutique hotel, or hotel management.
- Proven experience managing guest relations and daily operations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong administrative and organisational abilities.
- Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office and hospitality booking systems.
- Experience with online travel agencies (Booking.com, Airbnb, Expedia, etc.).
- Financial administration and basic budgeting experience.
- Valid driver’s licence.
- Fluent in English and Afrikaans.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, public holidays, and peak tourism periods.
