Job Description: Fixed Income Portfolio Manager (Succession Track) Position: Fixed Income Portfolio Manager (Head of Department Track) Location: Johannesburg (JHB) or Cape Town (CPT) / Remote flexibility available Company Profile: Established Investment Firm (12 Years) Succession Timeline: 5-Year Path to Business Owners A boutique investment firm with a decade-long track record is seeking a high-caliber Fixed Income Portfolio Manager to lead their fixed income division. This is a critical succession planning appointment . The Role This is a dual-focus role requiring both technical mastery and a strong commercial appetite. You will lead an established team of five fixed income professionals, oversee the full spectrum of interest-bearing mandates while driving the firm's growth through market engagement. Key Responsibilities: Portfolio Management: Oversee and manage Money Market funds, Income funds, and Nominal Bonds. Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and manage a dedicated fixed income team of 5 members. Trading & Execution: Directly execute trades and continuously refine and improve investment strategies. Sales & Marketing: Take an active lead in business development, client pitching, and marketing the firm's fixed income capabilities to institutional and retail stakeholders. Succession Transition: Gradually assume operational and leadership responsibilities as part of the five-year path to principal leadership. Requirements We are looking for an ambitious, commercially minded professional who possesses the technical depth to manage complex funds and the charisma to lead a business. Experience: Proven track record in fixed income portfolio management with experience across Money Markets and Nominal Bonds. Leadership: Demonstrated ability to manage and develop a professional investment team. Commercial Acumen: Strong sales and marketing inclination; comfortable presenting to clients and driving AUM growth. Education: Relevant postgraduate degree (Honours/Masters in Finance or Economics). CFA charter holder or CA(SA) is highly preferred. Location: Based in Johannesburg or Cape Town (Remote availability for the right fit). Succession & Career Path This position is designed for an "owner-in-waiting." Years 12: Master the current mandates, lead the team of 5, and increase market visibility through sales efforts. Years 34: Transition into senior firm leadership and begin the handover of key partner relationships. Year 5: Final succession and takeover of business management and ownership from the founding partners.
