About the Role

The Data Steward role is a critical component of our organization’s data management strategy, responsible for implementing and maintaining business processes required to create, maintain, and enhance data. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing overall guidance and governance oversight to allocated data sets, ensuring alignment with business priorities, and maximizing value from data.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide input into the definition of data processes and standards.
  • Embed data policies, standards, tools, and best practices within the data domain of responsibility.
  • Evaluate existing information management landscape and produce reports for areas of improvement.
  • Attend relevant information management working groups and implement requirements accordingly.
  • Ensure compliance with internal policy, regulatory requirements, and data practice standards.
  • Interact and build relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure compliance with statutory requirements.
  • Develop data service level agreements (SLAs).
  • Document business term definitions.
  • Create and maintain reference data and master data definitions.
  • Maintain metadata, data quality rules, Enterprise Data Model (EDM), reference data, records register, where applicable.
  • Publish relevant metadata to appropriate users in an organization and monitor published data sources for usage, relevance, and quality feedback.
  • Create and manage business metadata for published data sources to ensure it is easily discoverable and meaningful to information workers.
  • Respond to data queries (e.g., data quality issues) as defined by the data quality issue resolution process.
  • Coordinate data quality issue resolution.
  • Perform root cause analysis to resolve data quality issues and implement solutions accordingly.
  • Assess access requests and actions according to access standards and information owner approvals.
  • Monitor user access and usage of the data sets owned or accountable for.
  • Define and obtain sign-off on measurement for information management disciplines.
  • Provide input into information management metrics.
  • Provide accurate and reliable reporting together with analyzing trends and data used to improve business decisions.
  • Accumulate information to review work progress that provides input to reporting, decision-making, and the identification of improvement opportunities.
  • Present reports on improvement opportunities to be prioritized or decided upon by relevant decision-making committees as and when required.
  • Define information management requirements (e.g., data cleansing and data quality) and drive the implementation of the requirements.
  • Participate in data-related projects and provide required domain-level expertise.
  • Align data activities to targeted projects for remediation.
  • Drive activities of the Segment implementation roadmap for the information management function.
  • Take ownership of the maturity roadmap for relevant Business Unit aligned to implementation roadmap and provide inputs for roadmap assessment.
  • Deliver initiatives that improve the level of information management maturity.
  • Apply understanding of data management and business processes and coordinate with relevant stakeholders to solve business problems.
  • Specify information management objectives and benefits in consultation with business stakeholders and obtain sign-off.
  • Serve as a change agent for information management.
  • Present information management trends to management and relevant committees using internal and external research, including best practices and industry standards.
  • Consult in matters of data workflows, master data security, and access rights.
  • Promote best practices and make recommendations to business users that will create efficiencies and ensure data integrity.
  • Develop an understanding of information flow and system architecture and how it relates to underlying data structures.
  • Provide training or awareness to the business and data community on data management disciplines.
  • Provide advice on new tools that offer increased business efficiency and profitability.
  • Identify and recommend possible solutions to support business requirements and partners with stakeholders to develop an optimum solution.
