About the Role

Our client, a leading Freight Forwarding Company, seeks a Junior Legal Counsel to join their team in Johannesburg (JNB or CPT). The ideal candidate will provide general legal support to the business units and departments, while also assisting with reviewing and drafting commercial contracts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deal with general day-to-day operational legal enquiries from the business units/departments
  • Assist in reviewing, drafting, advising, and negotiating on a diverse range of commercial contracts
  • Assist in drafting and reviewing corporate documents, including board/shareholders meeting minutes/resolutions, POAs, MOAs, licenses, etc.
  • Undertake general corporate work (such as registration and liquidation of companies, share transfers, etc.)
  • Maintain up-to-date corporate documents of the entities he/she oversees
  • Deal with and advise on legal, employment, regulatory, and commercial matters
  • Coordinate with external lawyers in obtaining legal opinions
  • Conducting legal research and analysis
  • Handle dispute resolution and litigation management, and oversee the work of external counsel as necessary
  • Identify, analyze, and assess legal/contractual risk in connection with business transactions

Requirements

  • 2-3 years PQE or relevant legal experience
  • Bachelor of Law degree from a reputable university with articles completed
  • Ideally 2 years post-articles experience in a law firm or corporate environment or just finished articles
  • Female candidate required for the role, due to BEE compliance
