Job Title: Mechanical Draughtsman Reporting to: Operations Seniority Level: Mid-Career (2-4 yrs exp) Type: Temp Minimum Requirements Matric / Grade 12 National Diploma or Certificate in Mechanical Engineering, Drafting, or equivalent AutoCAD Inventor experience (essential) CNC Milling Machine experience (advantageous / essential depending on company need) 24 years relevant experience in a manufacturing or engineering environment Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of fabrication processes Ability to read and interpret technical drawings Proficient in 2D and 3D modelling Attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills Duties & Responsibilities Produce detailed 2D and 3D mechanical drawings using AutoCAD Inventor Develop accurate part, assembly, and manufacturing drawings Work closely with engineering and production teams to ensure correct design specifications Update and revise drawings according to engineering or client changes Assist in creating BOMs (Bill of Materials) for projects Provide technical support in the design and development of components and assemblies Ensure all drawings comply with company standards and manufacturing capabilities Collaborate with CNC machinists to ensure designs are suitable for CNC milling production Review manufacturability of components and suggest improvements Maintain drawing records, revisions, and document control Participate in prototype development and testing where required Key Competencies Strong AutoCAD Inventor proficiency Knowledge of CNC milling processes and tolerances Understanding of machining, welding, and fabrication principles Good communication and teamwork abilities Ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines High accuracy and attention to detail

Skills and Competencies: Proficient in Autodesk Inventor and other CAD software. Strong understanding of mechanical design principles and engineering drawings. Hands-on and technically minded with excellent attention to detail. Ability to interpret complex drawings and technical documentation. Strong organizational and file management skills (including expert knowledge of CSS and technical file structures). Good communication and teamwork abilities. Problem-solving mindset with a focus on accuracy and efficiency. Key Responsibilities: Develop detailed 2D and 3D mechanical drawings and assemblies using Autodesk Inventor. Work closely with engineers and production teams to translate design concepts into practical and manufacturable drawings. Create and maintain drawing files, technical documentation, and design libraries (including CSS file management). Review and update existing designs to improve functionality, manufacturability, and efficiency. Ensure all drawings comply with industry standards, company specifications, and quality requirements. Provide technical support during the production and assembly stages. Participate in design reviews and provide constructive input for design improvement.

Qualification Matric Professional Certificate in Mechanical Draughting Requirements 5 Years’ experience in Draughting Mechanical Engineering and fabricated knowledge and background Strong experience on Autodesk programs (Vault, Inventor and AutoCAD, 2D & 3D) Attention to detail Good understanding of drawings and standards Understand measuring equipment and how they are used Understand the fundamentals of tolerances, geometrical tolerances, machining symbols, and welding symbols on drawings and know how to model and do assemblies in Inventor Duties Existing components must be reverse engineered to almost perfect accuracy for modelling and interference checking purposes. Existing components must be modelled from measurements and in the case of missing components, new components must be created to fit the rest of the existing components. After components are modelled, assemblies are created to fit existing &/or new components together and check if all components fit as should. Components that require modification and new components must be detailed out in detail for manufacturing. The draftsman has a responsibility to check their own drawings and make sure the drawing is according to Company Standard and has all relevant sizes and notes.

Minimum of 2 – 4 years experience working as a Mechanical Design Draughtsman Inventor & AutoCAD is a pre-recqisite National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering / Multidisciplinary Draughting Certificate & Grade 12 Ability to understand and produce technical drawings. Proficiency in Inventor and AutoCAD drawing packages. A proven track record in a shop floor environment or similar Ability to manage and schedule drawing projects to meet delivery dates. Other skills: Ability to interpret and apply engineering standards. Exposure to a manufacturing environment. Ability to perform simple mechanical calculations. Computer literacy in MS Office packages. Experience with ERP/BOM systems would be an advantage.
