Job Description

Job Summary: The Head Ranger is responsible for overseeing all aspects of park management and operation. This includes supervising park rangers, managing park resources, ensuring visitor safety and satisfaction, and maintaining park facilities. The Head Ranger must be knowledgeable about conservation practices, wildlife management, and outdoor recreation. They must also have excellent leadership and communication skills in order to effectively manage a team of rangers and interact with park visitors. Key Responsibilities: – Supervise and coordinate the activities of park rangers, including scheduling, training, and performance management – Develop and implement park management plans in collaboration with other staff members – Monitor and maintain park resources, including vegetation, wildlife, and water sources – Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations related to park management and conservation – Provide information and assistance to park visitors, including answering questions and resolving conflicts – Inspect and maintain park facilities, such as trails, campsites, and picnic areas – Respond to emergencies and administer first aid as needed – Manage park budgets and participate in long-term strategic planning for park development Matric (Grade 12) certificate. FGASA Level 2 or higher qualification. First Aid Level 2 (minimum requirement). Certified in the handling and use of manually operated rifle, shotgun, and carbine for business purposes (SAQA XXX-XXXX). NDT registered. Lead Trails Guide qualification. Valid Advanced Rifle Handling qualification (essential). Minimum 5 years experience in Big 5 African safari guiding. At least 2 years experience as an Assistant Head Ranger or Head Ranger (essential). Excellent command of the English language (reading, writing, and speaking). Valid drivers licence with PrDP. Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and internet use).
