Job Description

Key Responsibilities Maintenance Operations & Control Ensure effective reactive, predictive, and preventative maintenance across all plant, equipment, and infrastructure. Coordinate first-line maintenance activities to minimise equipment downtime. Raise and manage maintenance job cards, ensuring appropriate work permits are obtained and escalated where required. Lead and participate in fault diagnosis and root cause analysis (5 WHY, 8D, etc.) following equipment failures. Approve job cards upon successful completion of maintenance work. Coordinate plant shutdowns and provide feedback to management. Ensure equipment and work areas are safe, properly maintained, and compliant with housekeeping standards. Submit maintenance reports to the Engineering Maintenance Manager. Compliance & Safety Operate within company controls, policies, and procedures. Identify and report risks or areas of concern within the department. Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, safety regulations, and environmental standards. Enforce Health, Safety, and Environmental (SHE) requirements to minimise risk and prevent incidents. Maintain accurate documentation and records. Customer & Stakeholder Engagement Maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Represent the company in relevant meetings. Resolve operational and maintenance-related issues efficiently and professionally. Staff Supervision & Development Ensure performance agreements are in place for all direct reports. Conduct regular performance appraisals and provide structured feedback. Identify training and development needs in collaboration with HR. Support employee development through coaching and ongoing training initiatives. Address employee relations matters promptly and fairly. Cost & Financial Control Contribute to the maintenance budgeting process. Monitor and control maintenance expenditure within approved budget limits. Promote efficient and responsible use of financial and operational resources. Identify and implement cost-saving and efficiency improvement initiatives. Report any deviations from budget to the direct manager. Minimum Requirements Qualifications: Certificate in a Technical or Maintenance-related discipline (NQF 5). Trade Test (NQF 5). Certificate in First Line Management (FLMP) (NQF 5). A Diploma in a Technical or Maintenance-related discipline (NQF 6) will be advantageous. Experience: Up to 5 years experience in maintenance operations within a manufacturing environment. At least 12 years supervisory experience. Experience working shifts will be advantageous. Technical Competencies Computer literacy (MS Office Suite, SAP, ERP, and related systems). Strong knowledge of maintenance practices, processes, and procedures. Sound understanding of relevant manufacturing legislation and safety regulations. Key Competencies Proactive and action-oriented. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills. Effective planning and organisational ability. Supervisory and leadership skills. Customer-focused mindset. Resilient and able to perform under pressure. Strong conflict-handling ability. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
