About the Role
CY Medicals, a newly established medical device developer and manufacturer, is seeking a Laboratory Assistant to support daily laboratory operations. This role requires attention to detail, good organisation, and the ability to follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) strictly.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive, label, log, and store samples according to SOPs and chain-of-custody requirements
- Prepare media, reagents, buffers, and consumables (as trained)
- Assist with basic lab tests and routine procedures under supervision
- Operate and care for lab equipment (e.g., balances, centrifuges, pH meters, autoclaves) and report faults
- Clean, sanitise, and maintain workspaces, glassware, and instruments
- Support inventory: stock counting, ordering requests, and tracking expiry dates
- Dispose of waste safely (biohazard/chemical/general) in line with safety protocols
- Record results and activities accurately in worksheets/LIMS/logbooks
- Follow health & safety and quality standards (e.g., GMP/GLP/ISO 17025 where applicable)
- Assist with audits, sample traceability, and document control as required
Requirements
- Matric / Grade 12 (Maths & Science preferred)
- Relevant certificate/diploma (e.g., Lab Assistant, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Chemistry) advantageous
- 1 year and above lab experience (training may be provided for junior candidates)
- Basic computer skills (MS Excel/Word/Powerpoint)
