Welding and Fabrication:
- Perform welding duties using stick welding, gas welding and arc welding.
- Weld steel structures using welding equipment as specified by procedures.
- Read and interpret technical drawings, job specifications and work instructions.
- Cut, prepare and join metal materials according to specifications and quality standards.
- Grind, clean and finish welded surfaces to ensure a neat final product.
Boilermaker Assistance:
- Assist the Boilermaker with the fabrication, assembly and installation of metal structures and components.
- Support fit-up work, alignment and positioning of fabricated parts before welding.
- Assist with repair work, steel fabrication and general workshop duties.
- Prepare materials, tools and equipment required for daily workshop and site activities.
Equipment Operation and Maintenance:
- Operate equipment such as lifting gear, slings, grinders, cutting torches and any other tools required to perform duties.
- Perform maintenance on equipment to ensure it is in proper working condition for welding tasks.
- Ensure all tools and equipment issued for jobs and projects are kept safe and in good condition.
Performance and Quality:
- Maintain work performance in accordance with KPI standards, job descriptions and company procedures.
- Ensure all welding work is completed according to company and client quality standards.
- Follow all formal/written and informal/verbal instructions and procedures as operational requirements may change.
- Maintain productivity and ensure tasks are completed correctly the first time.
Health, Safety and Housekeeping:
- Maintain a safe and clean work environment by complying with work procedures, rules and standards.
- Adhere to all Health and Safety standards and wear the protective equipment issued while working.
- Ensure good housekeeping practices are followed at all times.
- Work according to Quality Control Systems and company safety requirements.
General Responsibilities:
- Follow any lawful instruction required by management.
- Assist with local and international commissioning and field service work as required for site work.
- Work closely with supervisors, Boilermakers and team members to complete projects efficiently.
- Be willing to work overtime when required to ensure project completion.
Experience & Qualification:
- Minimum N3 qualification.
- Trade Test / Red Seal qualification as a Welder is essential.
- Minimum 5 years’ relevant welding experience.
- Previous experience assisting a Boilermaker in a workshop or site environment will be advantageous.
- Experience with heavy welding equipment is preferred.
- Basic proficiency in relevant technical tools and systems necessary for the role.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and technical knowledge.
- Ability to read and write in English.
- Ability to perform simple mathematical calculations.
- Good practical and technical skills.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Good communication skills.
- Attention to detail.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a workshop environment.
- Must be able to perform duties on own or as part of a team.
- Customer-service orientated with an emphasis on results, diplomacy, multitasking and prioritization.
- Ability to participate in projects that involve or impact the wider company.
- Must be dedicated to completing tasks accurately and efficiently.
- Ability to work without supervision where required.
