About the Role
The Chemical Plant Controller role at MECS Africa requires a highly skilled and experienced professional to oversee the day-to-day operations of our chemical plant. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the plant, while also contributing to its continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Participates in shift handover meetings.
- Provides adequate feedback to supervisor on work progress.
- Participates in root cause analyses, and provides feedback to RCA teams.
- Participates in risk assessments according to legislation and company requirements to improve safety.
- Maintains good housekeeping and adheres to waste disposal procedures.
- Applies and maintains safety in a working environment.
- Understands and knows the business, drives, and KPIs.
- Contributes to the development of training modules.
- Identifies personal training and development needs, and incorporates into PDP with group leader’s approval.
- Leads by example (walks the talk).
- Conducts on-the-job coaching of learners.
- Presents SME presentations on specific plant equipment.
- Conducts IMS inspections to maintain and improve plant sustainability.
- Works effectively in a team.
- Plays an appropriate main role during emergency situations to get the plant back online.
- Provides and receives feedback to other disciplines (partners on daily issues).
- Manages stakeholder relationships.
- Gives input at “toolbox talks” to improve plant safety.
- Identifies continuous improvement opportunities in own work area.
- Improves practices and/or equipment.
Requirements
- High School Diploma with Maths & Science and Occupational Trade Certificate (NQF4).
- 2 years minimum experience as an operator in crude oil refining facility.
- Previously declared competent as an operator in either process(es) within subsets:
- Crude and Vacuum units (CDU/VDU)
- Fluidized Catalytic Cracker (FCC)
- Diesel Hydrotreater
- Naphtha Hydrotreater
- Platformer
- Alkylation
- Utilities
- AR Hydrotreater (RCD)
- Hydrocracker
- Hydrogen Unit
- Amine/Sulfur Recovery Unit
- API Wastewater Management
- Tank Farm
- Product Dispatch
