Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead the engineering of primary systems for high-voltage substations
- Design and review high-voltage equipment layouts, arrangements, and supporting structures
- Specify and integrate high-voltage equipment including transformers, circuit breakers, disconnectors, and CTs/VTs
- Develop primary layouts, general arrangement drawings, and installation concepts
- Ensure compliance with applicable standards, regulations, and grid operator requirements
- Provide technical leadership and ownership across internal and external engineering teams
- Coordinate with secondary engineering, civil, construction, and commissioning teams
- Support installation, testing, and commissioning of primary equipment
Experience and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Power Engineering
- Minimum 7 years’ experience in primary high-voltage substation engineering
- In-depth knowledge of transformers, circuit breakers, disconnectors, CTs, and VTs
- Strong experience with high-voltage layouts, equipment installation, and mechanical structures
- Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary engineering teams
- Experience with L-CAD and/or EPLAN
- Proactive, result-driven mindset with strong technical ownership
- Preferably experience with a company that both designs and constructs high-voltage substations
- Fluent in English and Afrikaans, with willingness to learn Dutch
