About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Maintenance Manager to oversee the upkeep of our lodge’s facilities, ensuring a seamless guest experience while maintaining a high level of maintenance efficiency. The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing and managing preventative maintenance programs, driving operational efficiencies, and leading a team of maintenance personnel.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee gardens, vehicles, solar, water system, pools, electricity & electric fence, general maintenance, plumbing
  • Maintain the overall maintenance of the lodge and all facilities, including buildings, fixtures, furniture, equipment, swimming pools, landscapes, and gardens
  • Implement a comprehensive preventative maintenance program for the lodge
  • Ensure that all essential equipment is serviced and maintained to prolong its lifespan
  • Perform routine maintenance in a way that minimizes disruption to guest satisfaction
  • Upskill and develop the maintenance team members
  • Manage staff performance and discipline
  • Prepare reports and provide relevant information to the General Manager on preventative maintenance programs, capex projects, and safety audits

Requirements

  • Grade 12 Diploma or tertiary qualification in engineering/technical trades
  • At least 3 years of experience in luxury lodge environments
  • Fine attention to detail and a guest-centric approach
  • Ability to drive change and identify operational efficiencies/synergies
  • Highly presentable with excellent communication skills and balanced emotional intellect

The Maintenance Manager role at this boutique safari lodge is pivotal to ensuring seamless operations and guest satisfaction. Beyond technical expertise, the role demands strong organizational skills, hands-on problem solving, and the ability to work in a remote bush environment where resourcefulness and adaptability are essential. Core Criteria: Proven experience in property or hospitality maintenance management. Strong technical knowledge across electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems. Hands-on problem-solving skills and ability to work independently. Leadership and team management experience. Excellent organizational and communication skills. Ability to adapt and be resourceful in a remote bush environment. Commitment to safety, sustainability, and high service standards. Candidate Responsibilities: Oversee daily upkeep of lodge infrastructure (electrical, plumbing, HVAC, water systems). Maintain pools, gardens, and guest areas to luxury standards. Implement preventative maintenance schedules and respond to urgent repairs. Manage a small maintenance team, ensuring efficiency and safety. Coordinate with external contractors for specialized work.
