About the Role
The General Maintenance Worker role is a crucial position within our property maintenance team, responsible for ensuring the upkeep and maintenance of various properties throughout Stellenbosch. The successful candidate will be expected to work independently and as part of a team to maintain high standards of property maintenance.
Key Responsibilities
- Property Maintenance: Painting, plastering, skimming of walls and tiling
- Basic electrical repairs
- Basic carpentry work
- Basic plumbing repairs & maintenance
- Inspection and maintenance of fire extinguishers and air conditioners
- Site inspections and assessment of damage at properties with foreman
- Garden maintenance when needed
- Follow any additional instructions and requests from Foreman or Employer
- Contractors and Tenant Relationship Management: Engage with outside contractors for maintenance not done by the in-house team in a respectful and professional manner
- Efficiently respond to tenants complaints, evaluate what action needs to be taken and discuss with foreman
- Always treat tenants and their property in a respectful and professional manner
- Health and Safety: Adhere to safety policies and procedures
- Attend monthly health and safety meetings at HHSA workshop
- Attend training as scheduled from time to time by Health and Safety manager
- Upkeep of monthly registers and records re-tools, ladders, first aid, stock take
- Participate actively in daily, weekly and monthly team meetings to ensure team works effectively
- Continuously assess properties to pro-actively identify potential maintenance actions
- Provide input to and execute maintenance plan
- Keep foreman or employer informed of completed tasks and challenges encountered
- Be available to work overtime if required from time to time
- Be available to attend to maintenance at properties not located in Stellenbosch, which may include a period of up to two weeks
Requirements
- Grade 12 Certificate
- Minimum formal certification in any or all of the following skills will be an advantage:
- Electrical
- Plumbing
- Carpentry
- Tiling
- Plastering walls
- Painting
- Computer skills, MS Office skills
- Behavioral skills: integrity, reliable, punctual, positive, motivated
- Planning and scheduling tasks
- Multitasking, time management, problem solving
- Team player
- Respectful relationship with co-workers and peers
- Good communications skills, internal and external
Qualifications
- Formal education/certifications (Bachelor’s, LLB, Matric, etc.) are not required for this position.
