About the Role
We are seeking a skilled Horizontal Boring Machine Operator to join our team in Johannesburg. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for operating and setting up Horizontal Boring Machines and related conventional workshop machinery to machine components used in high-specification pressure equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and set up Horizontal Boring Machines for machining pressure parts and high-specification components.
- Operate Vertical Drilling Machines for headers and related components.
- Work on Radial Arm Drilling Machines, Lathes, and Milling Machines as required.
- Read, interpret, and work accurately from technical drawings, machining sketches, and specifications.
- Select the correct cutting tools, speeds, feeds, and machining methods to achieve required tolerances and surface finishes.
- Machine components to tight tolerances, ensuring precision and repeatability.
- Perform machining work on exotic, high-temperature, and pressure-resistant materials.
- Ensure compliance with safety procedures and quality standards.
- Conduct basic machine maintenance, assist with general machining tasks, and identify machining issues.
- Maintain production documentation and job records.
Requirements
- Relevant Trade Qualification (Machinist/Toolmaker/Turner/Fitter & Turner or similar).
- 5-10 years experience in a machining/engineering workshop environment.
- Strong experience with Horizontal Boring Machines, Drilling Machines, Lathes, and Milling Machines.
- CNC experience advantageous.
