About the Role
We are seeking knowledgeable and charismatic Sommeliers to join a premier hospitality group in Johannesburg, working with curated high-end wine lists in vibrant dining hubs. This exceptional opportunity is ideal for wine professionals looking to enhance their skills and work with premium concepts.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide professional wine service and expert pairing advice to guests, enhancing the overall dining experience.
- Oversee wine inventory, ensuring correct storage conditions, stock rotation, and meticulous record-keeping.
- Work closely with the Beverage Manager and Chefs to ensure the wine list complements the specific Greek, Italian, or Steakhouse menus.
- Conduct regular training sessions for front-of-house staff to improve their wine knowledge and upselling techniques.
- Monitor wine sales trends and implement strategies to achieve beverage revenue targets.
Requirements
- Formal wine certification (e.g., WSET Level 2 or 3 or equivalent South African sommelier qualification).
- A minimum of 3 years of experience as a Sommelier or Wine Steward in a fine dining or premium casual environment.
- Deep understanding of both South African and international wines, with specific knowledge of Mediterranean varietals being an advantage.
