Pietermaritzburg: FITTER (Factory Mechanical Maintenance)

About the Role

An experienced Trade Tested Fitter is sought for a permanent position in a well-established manufacturing operation based in Pietermaritzburg. The ideal candidate will thrive in a high-output production environment, prioritizing plant reliability and precision workmanship.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform mechanical maintenance within a continuous manufacturing plant environment
  • Conduct fault-finding, diagnostics, testing, and inspections on mechanical systems
  • Work on gears, motors, bearings, shafts, couplings, pumps, drives, and associated machine components
  • Perform preventative and scheduled maintenance to reduce breakdowns and downtime
  • Execute breakdown repairs under production pressure
  • Inspect, repair, replace, and install mechanical equipment and components
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and reports
  • Support plant reliability and equipment optimisation initiatives
  • Participate in shutdown planning and execution
  • Ensure compliance with safety, ISO, and environmental standards

Requirements

  • Trade Tested Fitter (Red Seal essential)
  • N4 N6 in Mechanical Engineering (adv) is an advantage
  • Minimum 35 years post-trade experience within a manufacturing / plant maintenance environment
  • Strong mechanical fault-finding and diagnostic capability
  • Experience in preventative and predictive maintenance systems
  • Knowledge of ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 standards (adv)
  • Physically fit and capable of working in an industrial plant environment
  • Good communication skills across all levels
  • Emotionally stable, responsible, and able to work under pressure

Salary & Benefits

Salary is market-related and negotiable. Overtime shift and standby allowance are available. A TCTC (Tax-Free Cash Transfer Component) is also offered.
