South Africa: Director- Business School (5 year fixed-term contract)

About the Role

The Nelson Mandela University Business School is seeking a visionary Director to take the School into an exciting phase of development. As the executive head of the Business School, you will be responsible for strategic positioning nationally and internationally, leading academic and executive education programmes, and driving research and innovation initiatives. You will also be expected to lead commercialisation of the knowledge base and programmes, optimise human resources, develop successful marketing strategies, and ensure financial sustainability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Directing and coordinating learning and teaching processes and ensuring overall quality of academic programmes
  • Leading and implementing research and innovation initiatives, including developing and implementing a research strategy and ensuring quality of research outputs
  • Commercialising the knowledge base and programmes of the Business School, while ensuring their relevance and quality
  • Optimising human resources through leading and managing Academic and Administrative Staff to ensure optimal deployment
  • Developing and executing successful marketing strategies for academic programmes and building, maintaining, and expanding internal and external relationships and partnerships
  • Ensuring stewardship and optimisation of financial and other resources
  • Conceptualising, leading, and managing the Internationalisation strategy and processes for the School
  • Overseeing viable student access and success measures
  • Enabling and advancing economic viability and sustainability of the Business School

  • Proven ability to develop and lead academic strategic planning and implement academic programmes
  • Ability to manage functional teams and work as part of a senior management team
  • Excellent people management and development skills
  • Sound financial management skills

  • Complex problem-solving, conflict management, and decision-making skills
  • Steeped in the philosophy and ethos of building and maintaining humanising work environments
  • Excellent marketing and networking skills
  • Strong student focus, including sound knowledge of academic administrative requirements in respect of admission and enrolment of students
  • Experience of successfully supervising masters’ and doctoral studies
  • Proven experience of working, leading, and/or collaborating on transdisciplinary academic initiatives
  • Contributed to the creation of knowledge by virtue of published research in peer-reviewed journals, scholarly books, and other texts
