Alberton: Design Draughtsman

JOB PURPOSE: Support the Design Office by producing accurate 2D and 3D design drawings and assisting with the development of new and existing equipment. Provide additional capacity to the team and contribute to the expansion of the companys product range. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Design & Draughting Prepare high-quality 2D and 3D models, fabrication drawings, and assemblies for water and wastewater treatment equipment. Develop and refine equipment designs for improved performance, manufacturability, and cost efficiency. Produce General Arrangement (GA) drawings and Bills of Materials (BOMs) in accordance with project requirements. Support the design of new products and variations based on engineering input or client specifications. Review and check design outputs for technical accuracy and compliance with company standards. Collaboration Work in close coordination with the Engineering Manager, Mechanical Draughtsmen/Engineer, and Systems Developer to ensure alignment of design standards and data management processes. Liaise with engineers, project managers, procurement, and production teams to ensure smooth project execution. Provide technical support during fabrication and assembly, resolving design-related challenges where required. Product Development & Innovation Contribute to R&D and product development initiatives by proposing design improvements and new concepts. Assist with prototype design, testing, and feedback implementation. Support the Engineering Manager in exploring opportunities for new equipment currently outside the companys existing product scope. Drawing Administration Ensure that drawings issued adhere to the departments best practises and Standard operating procedures. Maintain drawings to “as-built” level. Assist the engineering manager with regards to drawings to be issued. Review drawings before distribution. Quality & Compliance Maintain adherence to companies design standards, drawing control, and revision procedures. Ensure all drawings meet ISO 9001:2015 requirements and are prepared in line with SolidWorks PDM workflows. Participate in internal design reviews and continuous improvement initiatives. KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS (KPAs): Accuracy and technical quality of 2D and 3D design outputs Timely completion of drawings and project deliverables Compliance with companies design standards and ISO 9001:2015 requirements Effective drawing control, revision management, and PDM adherence Contribution to product development and design improvements Effective collaboration with engineering, procurement, and production teams QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE: National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Draughting (or equivalent). 5 – 8 years experience in a mechanical design and draughting environment, ideally in water treatment or process equipment industries. Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks (3D modelling and drafting). Strong understanding of mechanical systems, materials, and fabrication processes. Experience with design development, product improvement, and R&D collaboration. Excellent communication and problem-solving skills. Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
