Cape Business News is Hiring: Mid-Level Journalist (Full-Time) Cape Business News is seeking a dynamic and experienced Mid-Level Journalist with a strong sense for identifying compelling story angles and delivering high-quality business content. This role is ideal for a motivated individual who can manage multiple editorial tasks while maintaining accuracy, relevance, and engagement across print and digital platforms. The successful candidate will be confident in conducting interviews, writing and editing content, and working within a fast-paced, deadline-driven publishing environment. Our goal is simple: to deliver exceptional, informative, and engaging business content. Job Details Job Type: Full-time Location: Cape Town (Required) Minimum Requirements Bachelors Degree in Journalism, Mass Communication, or related field (Preferred) Minimum 5 years experience in journalism (Business-to-Business sector preferred) Fluent in English and Afrikaans Valid Drivers License Strong understanding of digital publishing platforms Key Responsibilities Compile and contribute content for the Cape Business News monthly publication Source, research, and write relevant and current business news content Conduct face-to-face interviews with clients, stakeholders, and industry leaders Conduct interviews via digital platforms such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams Edit and proofread content in line with the editorial style guide Review page proofs and ensure accuracy before publication Fact-check all articles, ensuring no false claims (especially certifications and accreditations) Assist in managing and filtering contributions from external writers Write press releases and corporate editorial content Maintain and update feature briefs Support internal content planning and editorial schedules Ensure all content is fresh, relevant, and not republished or outdated Assist with CBN Digital Daily News and social media publishing Engage with partners and stakeholders where required Attend events, expos, and client engagements (local and national travel required) Operate within internal systems, SOPs, and turnaround timelines Report on weekly activity to the Publisher Work closely with the Digital Production Manager Maintain professionalism and flexibility, including working outside normal hours when required Core Competencies Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills Ability to identify newsworthy stories and engaging angles Confident communicator, able to engage with C-level executives and industry leaders Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace Efficient in using Teams and Zoom for virtual interviews Strong organisational and time-management skills Ability to work independently and within a team Comfortable working under pressure and meeting deadlines Industry Knowledge & Insight Understanding of industrial, manufacturing, and business sectors (advantageous) Awareness of key economic trends and growth sectors within the Western Cape Research-driven approach to sourcing relevant companies and interview opportunities Additional Attributes Presentable and confident in professional environments Active on social media platforms (LinkedIn, Twitter/X, Facebook) A proactive, can-do attitude Flexible and adaptable in a fast-paced environment If you are passionate about business journalism and ready to grow within a respected publication, we would love to hear from you.
