About the Role
The Maintenance Supervisor role at our client’s water treatment facility in Witbank is a critical position that requires strong technical knowledge, leadership skills, and a proactive approach to ensure the smooth operation of the plant. As a key member of the maintenance team, you will be responsible for overseeing daily work on site/workshop, planning and executing maintenance intervals, inspections, and repairs, as well as guiding teams on task sequencing and removing blockers.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily work on site/workshop and direct labourers, junior operators, and subcontractors
- Plan and execute maintenance intervals, inspections, and repairs to meet uptime targets
- Guide teams on task sequencing, remove blockers, and escalate risks where required
- Conduct toolbox talks and daily briefings; ensure only authorised and competent personnel perform tasks
- Perform and supervise electrical terminations in distribution boards (up to 380V within authorisation)
- Conduct fault-finding on electrical panels and carry out repairs/replacements
- Install and remove electrical components in panels and distribution boards
- Monitor pump performance (noise, leaks, temperature, flow) and perform changeovers
- Prime pumps when required and report defects
- Verify dosing pumps are operational and record chemical usage
- Interpret electrical and mechanical drawings and implement approved changes
- Ensure all work is tested, inspected, and compliant before energising
- Enforce compliance with company policies, procedures, and site rules
- Ensure correct PPE usage and safe working practices
- Stop unsafe work and report hazards, near misses, and incidents
- Support incident investigations where required
- Maintain environmental compliance (spill prevention, waste management, no contamination)
- Inspect work quality against specifications and correct defects immediately
- Oversee housekeeping, ensuring plant areas, pumps, sumps, screens, and strainers are clean and accessible
- Oversee plant readings (pH, turbidity, chlorine, dissolved oxygen, flow, tank levels)
- Ensure correct sampling, labelling, and storage of water samples
- Identify out-of-spec results and implement corrective actions
- Maintain logs, records, and compile reports for management and clients
- Request and coordinate parts, consumables, and tools
- Maintain tool registers, inspections, and safe storage
- Coordinate movement, loading, and unloading of materials on site
- Maintain professional communication with clients and provide updates
- Attend meetings with clients and suppliers when required
- Mentor and guide junior team members, ensuring competency before task allocation
Requirements
Relevant technical qualification (artisan, millwright/electrical/mechanical trade, or engineering-related)
2 5 years experience in a maintenance or supervisory role within industrial or water treatment environments
Strong electrical and mechanical knowledge (including panels up to 380V, pumps, and dosing systems)
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings
Understanding of HSEQ standards and compliance requirements
Strong leadership and organisational skills
Good administrative and reporting capability
Valid drivers license (essential)
South African ID (essential)
Medically fit and able to work in plant/site environments

Salary: R15,000 – R20,000 CTC per month
