About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Financial Accountant to join our finance team on a 6-month temp contract with the option to apply for a permanent role at Sygnia Asset Management in Cape Town. As Financial Accountant, you will play a key role in all aspects of the finance function and will report to the Head of Finance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate financial records and prepare financial statements up to trial balance.
  • Ensure income and expenses are recorded appropriately and allocated to the correct cost centres.
  • Prepare monthly management accounts.
  • Ensure compliance with IFRS and applicable financial regulations.
  • Assist with the monthly financial close process.
  • Detailed review and analysis of balance sheet accounts and reconciliations to month end reporting.
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts, including bank, creditors, and debtors, prepaid expenses etc.
  • Process journals, accruals, and adjustments as needed.
  • Manage VAT, Income Tax, and Provisional Tax calculations and submissions via SARS eFiling.
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with SARS regulations and liaise with tax authorities when necessary.
  • Stay up to date with tax legislation and regulatory changes affecting the business.

Requirements

  • Completed SAIPA or SAICA articles.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in financial accounting, with exposure to trial balance.
  • Strong taxation experience including VAT, Income Tax and SARS eFiling.
  • Excellent understanding of general ledger reconciliations.
  • Experience working with SAGE Evolution.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel.

  • BCom Accounting or related degree.
