About the Role
The Yellow Fleet Reliability Manager plays a critical role in ensuring the technical and reliability measurement for all yellow-fleet related matters arising from site. This position acts as the first line of communication, managing day-to-day technical escalations, breakdown support, warranty issues, and repeat failure investigations to enable the Yellow Fleet Technical Manager (HOD) to focus on strategic planning, contractual governance, OEM negotiations, long-term fleet optimisation, and organisational leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the primary point of contact for all site-initiated technical, reliability, and breakdown escalations related to yellow-fleet assets.
- Receive and manage initial technical calls from site, including Breakdown support, Repeat failures, Warranty-sensitive issues and Performance deviations.
- Conduct immediate triage of technical issues and determine Site-level resolution, OEM involvement and Escalation thresholds.
- Ensure that filtered, structured, and technically substantiated matters are escalated to the Yellow Fleet Technical Manager (HOD).
- Attend to day-to-day engagement with OEMs and service providers on technical and warranty matters.
- Administer Warranty claims, Supporting technical evidence, Communication timelines and Escalations and close-out documentation.
- Shield senior technical leadership from routine OEM engagements unless strategic and critical intervention is required.
- Facilitate Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) for Major failures, Repeat breakdowns and Premature component failures.
- Maintain and manage Failure modes registers and Repeat failure logs.
- Review maintenance outcomes and identify reliability risks arising from Preventative Maintenance execution gaps, Service interval misalignment, Poor component quality, administrative shortcomings.
- Ensure condition-monitoring data is actively used and interpreted.
- Track component life and identify early-life or end-of-life risks.
- Provide immediate technical guidance to site teams on Repair vs replace decisions and Warranty repair vs internal repair.
- Compile asset-level technical packs containing Failure history, Component replacements, Oil sampling trends and Cost data.
- Escalate lifecycle risks to the Yellow Fleet Technical Manager only when strategic decisions or commercial implications are required.
- Immediately escalate to the Yellow Fleet Technical Manager (HOD) when A machine is forecasted to be on breakdown for longer than 12 hours, Failures pose contractual, safety, or reputational risk and OEM non-performance requires senior intervention.
- Compile structured reliability reports that enable the Yellow Fleet Technical Manager to make strategic decisions without operational distraction.
Requirements
- National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical qualification
- Recognised Diesel Mechanic / Earthmoving Equipment Trade Qualification
- Minimum 8 years experience in open-cast mining or a comparable heavy earthmoving environment, such as Contract mining, Open-pit mining and Large-scale quarrying operations
