About the Role
The General Mine Manager will oversee and manage all mining and plant operations, ensuring safe, efficient, and profitable production. This role integrates mining activities and processing plant operations, ensuring optimal resource extraction, processing efficiency, and compliance with all regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Operational Management: Oversee end-to-end mining operations (open pit / underground as applicable) Manage processing plant operations (crushing, screening, washing, beneficiation, etc.)
- Ensure production targets (tonnage, grade, recovery rates) are met
- Optimise plant performance and throughput
- Implement continuous improvement strategies
- Health, Safety & Compliance: Ensure full compliance with the Mine Health and Safety Act Enforce site safety standards and procedures Lead incident investigations and corrective actions Maintain environmental compliance and sustainability practices
- Financial & Budget Control: Develop and manage operational budgets Monitor cost per ton and plant efficiency costs Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising safety or quality Report financial and operational performance to senior management
- People Management: Lead and manage multidisciplinary teams (mining, plant, engineering, safety) Oversee training and development of staff Ensure proper labour relations and workforce discipline Coordinate contractors and external service providers
- Engineering & Maintenance Oversight: Ensure plant and equipment are maintained to optimal standards Coordinate preventive and breakdown maintenance Work closely with engineering teams to reduce downtime
- Production Planning & Strategy: Develop short- and long-term mine plans Align mining output with plant processing capacity Ensure efficient stockpile and material handling management
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree / Diploma in: Mining Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering (with mining/plant exposure)
- Certifications (Advantageous / Required depending on mine) Mine Manager’s Certificate of Competency (MMC), Blasting Certificate (if applicable)
