Job Description
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced COBOL Developer to join our team on an 18-month contract basis. As a key member of our mainframe development team, you will work on core systems, supporting development, maintenance, batch processing, and online transaction workflows. Your strong COBOL experience will be leveraged to contribute to modernisation initiatives involving APIs, .NET, Azure, and SQL Server where applicable.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and enhance COBOL applications
- Support JCL and batch processing workflows
- Work with CICS for online transaction processing
- Maintain and optimise DB2 and/or VSAM data interactions
- Troubleshoot and resolve mainframe application issues
- Support system testing, deployment, and production fixes
- Collaborate with technical teams on integration and modernisation work
- Document technical changes and maintain development standards
Requirements
- 5 years of COBOL programming experience
- Strong proficiency in JCL and batch processing
- Experience with CICS online transaction processing
- Knowledge of DB2 and/or VSAM
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to work independently in a remote contract environment
