MAINTENANCE PLANNER

Midvaal Recruitment is currently recruiting on behalf of our client for a Maintenance Planner to join their Maintenance & Planning Department based in Kuils River.
This is a critical planning and coordination role within a heavy industrial/manufacturing environment, responsible for structured maintenance scheduling, reporting, asset control, and ERP system support.
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
The Maintenance Planner is responsible for maintaining and controlling all scheduled maintenance activities, breakdown records, shutdown planning, asset registers, and technical documentation.
The role ensures that all plant and equipment maintenance procedures are planned, documented, tracked, and reported in accordance with management directives and operational requirements.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
1?? Maintenance Planning & Equipment Control
- Read and analyze shift production reports.
- Record machinery condition and root cause analysis of stoppages.
- Maintain daily maintenance logs.
- Keep a comprehensive and updated equipment register.
- Track spare parts requirements and special repair procedures.
- Record modifications and completed repairs.
Deliverables:
- Accurate plant condition reports
- Updated machinery register
- Root cause analysis records
- Maintenance tracking documentation
2?? Maintenance Scheduling & Reporting
- Prepare and manage electrical and mechanical maintenance schedules.
- Maintain records of scheduled, breakdown and shutdown maintenance.
- Issue and monitor standard work instructions.
- Circulate daily shutdown and job status reports (8am and 4pm).
- Compile monthly (every 5th) maintenance performance and trend analysis reports.
- Report on:
- Man-hours
- Maintenance costs
- Revenue loss due to downtime
- Critical spares under order
- Support implementation and optimization of ERP maintenance modules.
Deliverables:
- Planned maintenance schedules
- Downtime analysis reports
- Cost and performance trend reports
- ERP maintenance system data accuracy
3?? Technical Library & Document Control
- Create and maintain a technical library and drawing register.
- Control filing and issuing of technical drawings and specifications.
- Maintain physical and electronic document registers.
- Allocate document numbers and conduct periodic audits.
- Maintain records of water, oil and utility consumption.
- Maintain register of specialized equipment.

- Updated drawing register
- Audit-compliant documentation records
4?? Compliance & Team Support
- Ensure operational continuity during planned and unplanned absences.
- Provide best practice guidance to line management.
- Maintain proactive and professional conduct.
- Take responsibility for performance and continuous development.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications
- Grade 12
- Relevant tertiary qualification (Engineering / Maintenance Planning preferred)
- Valid Code 8 Drivers License
- Computer Literacy Certificate
Experience
- Minimum 5 years experience in a Maintenance Planning role
- Working knowledge of metallurgy, logistics and engineering disciplines
- Strong experience with computerized planned maintenance systems (CMMS / ERP)
- Advanced computer skills
- Strong report writing and analytical skills
Additional Requirements
- Ability to analyze downtime trends and cost impact
- Strong organizational and coordination skills
- Ability to work within structured reporting frameworks
- 3-month probation/training period applies
