About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Technical Farm Manager to join our team in Cape Town, responsible for managing the technical aspects of our farm operations, including water, plant, and production systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage/install/repair boreholes, pump houses, and water distribution end-to-end
- Setup and manage irrigation systems from pump house to sprinklers/sprayers
- Program and operate pump start/stop systems and VSDs
- Manage pressure, flow rates, and moisture control for composting
- Plan compost production and screening schedules
- Adjust production for wet winter conditions and seasonal variation
- Optimise moisture levels to improve screening efficiency
- Ensure consistent compost quality
- Oversee screening plants, conveyors, motors, gearboxes and pumps
- Manage loaders, excavators, and material handlers
- Implement preventative maintenance and manage breakdowns
- Control diesel usage and equipment uptime
- Full control of site operations, housekeeping, and material flow
- Ensure litter picking and removal of foreign matter before dispatch
- Coordinate dispatch and ensure orders are delivered on time
- Maintain high product quality standards
- Enforce health & safety compliance and PPE use
- Supervise and manage operators and general workers
- Allocate daily tasks and production targets
Requirements
- Strong diesel mechanical and operational background
- Proven experience with: Boreholes, pumps, and irrigation systems; VSDs and pump control systems; Screening plants or industrial processing equipment
- 5+ years’ experience in: Composting, waste management, recycling, quarrying, mining, or Agri-processing
- Hands-on, practical, and solution-driven
- Valid driver’s licence
