About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Accounts Clerk to join our team at Brentwood Employment Relations Specialists in Durban. As an Accounts Clerk, you will be responsible for processing and verifying supplier invoices, generating accurate customer invoices, and maintaining accurate financial records. You will also be required to perform reconciliations, track and allocate logistics costs, and analyze financial data to identify trends and opportunities for cost-saving and efficiency improvements.
Key Responsibilities
- Process and verify supplier invoices; match against purchase orders and delivery notes; ensure timely payments.
- Generate accurate customer invoices; monitor outstanding payments and follow up on debtors.
- Perform supplier, customer, and bank reconciliations; resolve discrepancies efficiently.
- Track and allocate logistics costs (fuel, tolls, maintenance, subcontractors); analyze cost trends and highlight variances.
- Interpret financial and operational data to identify trends, discrepancies, and opportunities for cost-saving and efficiency improvements.
- Capture transactions and process journal entries in Pastel, ensuring accuracy and proper account allocation.
- Maintain accurate financial records and ensure proper filing for audit purposes.
- Assist with financial reporting, including expense analysis, variance reporting, and debtor aging.
- Ensure adherence to company policies and financial controls; support audit processes.
- Work closely with transport and warehouse teams to verify documentation and resolve queries.
- Capture and maintain data in accounting/logistics systems (e.g., Sage Pastel, SAP).
Requirements
- Grade 12 (Matric)
- Diploma or Certificate in Accounting/Finance (advantageous)
- 2–4 years’ experience in an accounts role, preferably within logistics or transport
- Experience working on Sage Pastel, including journal processing
- Strong MS Excel skills (including basic data analysis and reporting)
- Solid understanding of accounts payable and receivable processes
Qualifications
- Formal education/certifications (if applicable)
