About the Role
We are seeking a skilled Bookkeeper to join our team at Persona Staff in the Western Cape region. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records and processing transactions on our accounting system, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and providing support to external auditors.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate financial records and process transactions on the accounting system (MDA advantageous)
- Perform monthly bank reconciliations and allocate transactions to correct cost and project codes
- Process journals during month-end and year-end close processes
- Maintain audit-ready financial records and support external auditors
- Assist with preparation of monthly management accounts, including income statements, balance sheets, and trial balance reports
- Support budgeting and monthly variance reporting processes
- Prepare and process electronic payments, ensuring correct authorisation and allocations
- Reconcile shareholder and scheduled payments
- Raise tenant invoices for rent, utilities, maintenance, and recoveries
- Maintain and update rent rolls for accurate monthly billing
- Manage debtor accounts, including age analysis and follow-ups on outstanding balances
- Support debit order processing and tenant collections
- Assist with lease-end reconciliations, including deposits and outstanding balances
- Allocate municipal charges across shared tenants where applicable
- Assist with statutory compliance, including VAT, PAYE, UIF, and related submissions
- Support SARS submissions and audit preparation processes
- Maintain proper filing systems (electronic and physical) including SharePoint documentation
- Assist with payroll support functions and statutory payroll reconciliations
Requirements
- 3–4 years’ experience in a bookkeeping or property finance environment
- Matric / Grade 12 (relevant finance qualification advantageous)
- Strong understanding of bookkeeping up to trial balance
- Experience with accounting systems (MDA advantageous)
- Strong Excel skills
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong organisational ability and ability to manage deadlines
- Bilingual in Afrikaans and English
Qualifications
No formal education or certifications are required for this role. Relevant finance qualifications, such as a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field, may be advantageous.
