Durban: Sewing Line Supervisor

About the Role

As Sewing Line Supervisor, you will be responsible for overseeing all operations on the Sewing line, ensuring that materials are sewn accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with production schedules and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate the full upholstery production line to meet daily output targets.
  • Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of the Sewing team to meet daily output targets.
  • Assign tasks and manage team performance to ensure efficiency and accountability.
  • Ensure availability of required materials (fabric, thread, patterns, etc.) to avoid downtime.
  • Enforce strict adherence to sewing quality standards, minimizing material waste and errors.
  • Monitor work-in-progress to ensure deadlines are met and production flows smoothly to the next stage.
  • Conduct in-process inspections to identify quality issues early and minimize rework.
  • Conduct visual inspection of sewn products to ensure compliance with design specifications.
  • Coordinate with the Cutting, Upholstery, and Planning teams to maintain a smooth workflow.
  • Monitor daily output against production plan and provide accurate hourly production updates.
  • Coordinate with Quality Control and Upholstery departments to resolve discrepancies or defects.
  • Ensure all repairs are treated with urgency and completed within 2 – 3 hours on the same day.
  • Responsible for checking all repairs before being sent to upholstery.
  • The Supervisor will be held accountable for any line stoppages in Upholstery as a result of repairs sent without being checked.
  • Report on and monitor attendance & timekeeping.
  • Implement controls for the usage of toilet discs and supervise employee absence from work areas to maintain productivity.
  • Identify and resolve issues that could impact quality, productivity, or delivery.
  • Promote a culture of safety by enforcing safe work practices and PPE usage.
  • Ensure all tools and machines are operated according to safety standards.
  • Enforce health and safety regulations to maintain a safe and organized working environment.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and relevant industry standards.

Requirements

Knowledge and experience in sewing. Minimum 3 years’ experience in a sewing department. Strong understanding of production line management. Confident leader with strong written and verbal communication skills. High attention to detail and a strong focus on quality. Organised, proactive, and able to work in a fast-paced environment. Supervisory experience will be an advantage.
