About the Role
We are seeking a motivated and skilled individual to join our team as a Junior Millwright in our Edenvale facility. As a Junior Millwright, you will support the maintenance, repair, and basic installation of mechanical and electrical equipment in our FMCG plant, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient operation of production machinery while developing millwright skills under supervision.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with routine preventive and breakdown maintenance
- Perform basic mechanical repairs:
- Bearings, belts, chains, pulleys
- Gearboxes and conveyors
- Assist in machine strip-downs and rebuilds
- Lubrication and alignment tasks
- Basic fabrication and fitting (cutting, drilling, grinding)
- Assist with basic electrical fault finding
- Motor change-outs (single/three phase)
- Cable replacement and termination (under supervision)
- Sensor cleaning/replacement (photo eyes, prox sensors)
- Basic panel work housekeeping (no live work unless authorised)
- Respond to production breakdowns
- Assist with quick fixes to reduce downtime
- Support changeovers, startups, and shutdowns
- Maintain hygiene and GMP standards in production areas
Requirements
- Grade 12 (Matric) Maths & Science preferred
- N2N4 Engineering Studies (Mechanical/Electrical) Advantage
- 3 years experience in a manufacturing or FMCG environment
- Exposure to:
- Packaging machines
- Conveyors
- Pumps and motors
- Pneumatics (advantage)
- Basic mechanical fitting skills
- Basic electrical understanding
- Ability to use hand and power tools
- Ability to read simple drawings and manuals
- Mechanical aptitude
- Basic fault-finding ability
- Understanding of preventive maintenance
- GMP / HACCP experience
- FMCG high-speed packaging machines (e.g. fillers, cartoners, wrappers)
