About the Role
The Country General Manager â Automotive Retail (East Africa) will lead the overall strategy, direction, and operations of our clients’ automotive retail business in Ekurhuleni, providing a platform for sustainable growth, profitability, and market share. This role demands exceptional leadership skills, commercial acumen, and the ability to manage cross-cultural teams in an expatriate environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide overall leadership and direction for my client’s automotive retail operations in-country
- Develop and execute medium- to long-term strategies to drive sustainable growth, profitability, and market share
- Build, lead, and retain high-performing management teams while fostering a strong performance-driven culture
- Establish and strengthen relationships with OEMs, suppliers, regulators, and key commercial partners
- Ensure strong financial management, including full P&L ownership, budgeting, forecasting, and cost control
- Maintain compliance with local legislation, OEM standards, and internal governance frameworks
- Monitor market dynamics, customer behaviour, and competitive activity to identify growth opportunities
- Report to executive leadership with clear insights, forecasts, risks, and strategic recommendations
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Management, Automotive Engineering, or a related discipline
- MBA or relevant postgraduate qualification preferred
- 610 years senior leadership experience within automotive retail (e.g. General Manager, Regional Manager, Country Manager)
- Proven ability to lead multi-department automotive operations in competitive environments
- Strong commercial and financial acumen with hands-on P&L accountability
- Experience working in emerging markets or across Africa is highly advantageous
