About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Bookkeeper/Accounts Manager to join our team in Germiston. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing all aspects of our financial operations, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Debtors Management: Full debtors function including invoicing, maintaining and updating debtor schedules, following up on outstanding accounts, preparing letters for overdue accounts (including 120 days), and reconciling debtor accounts.
- Creditors Management: Supervising the Creditors function handled by Creditors staff, preparing and submitting EFT payments (Standard Bank Business Banking), managing overseas payments (56 suppliers per month), including advance payments and required documentation, and submitting supporting documentation to the bank when required.
- Cashbook & Banking: Full cashbook processing, bank reconciliations (including multiple and foreign currency accounts), managing COD payments and inter-account transfers, overseeing Call Account transactions, handling overseas payments, preparing and submitting BOP forms.
- Payroll & Wages: Processing monthly salaries and weekly wages (Pastel Payroll), PAYE calculations and submissions, medical aid and other payroll-related deductions, staff loan administration.
- VAT, Tax & Statutory Compliance: VAT calculations, reconciliations, and submissions, PAYE submissions, tax payments and overall compliance, managing SARS correspondence, applying for and maintaining Letters of Good Standing (SARS & WCA), completing and submitting Stats SA returns.
- General Ledger & Journals: Posting monthly journals and correcting entries, managing accruals (including audit preparation), maintaining VAT control accounts, preparing and balancing general ledger accounts, ensuring all supporting schedules remain up to date.
- Monthly Reporting: Preparing Trial Balance, printing and reviewing Income Statement and Balance Sheet, providing detailed transaction audit trails, ensuring accounts are balanced and submitted within deadlines.
- Year-End & Audit Preparation: Preparing schedules for auditors, managing accruals and supporting documentation, assisting with Annual Financial Statement preparation.
Requirements
Relevant accounting qualification
Minimum 10 years bookkeeping/Accounting experience
Experience within a small-to-medium sized business environment
Ability to work independently up to Trial Balance
Strong knowledge of VAT, PAYE, and statutory submissions
Payroll experience (essential)
Proficient in Pastel Accounting & Pastel Payroll
Strong MS Excel skills
Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
