A well-established attorneys firm based in Pietermaritzburg is seeking a detail-oriented and highly organised Bookkeeper to join their team. The ideal candidate must possess strong administrative abilities, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to effectively manage and drive daily financial processes within a professional legal environment. Candidates must also be confident and proficient in Microsoft Excel. Key Responsibilities: • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, journals, and trial balances • Prepare monthly management accounts and financial reports • Oversee accounts payable and receivable, including supplier and customer reconciliations • Process payroll and leave administration while ensuring compliance with SARS, UIF, and PAYE regulations • Manage VAT, EMP201, and other statutory submissions • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management • Liaise with auditors, tax consultants, and regulatory bodies • Ensure adherence to internal controls and company policies • Maintain accurate records for trust accounts in line with LPC and legal industry regulations • Ensure compliance with POPIA, the Companies Act, and other relevant legislation • Prepare and process payovers accurately and timeously in line with financial and regulatory requirements • Attend to related financial queries and follow-ups as required • Perform additional duties in line with operational requirements Requirements: • Proven bookkeeping experience, preferably within a legal or professional services environment • Strong administration and process management skills • Advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency • Excellent organisational and communication skills • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines • High level of accuracy, confidentiality, and attention to detail • Relevant bookkeeping or accounting qualification will be advantageous If you meet the above requirements and are looking for an opportunity within a professional and fast-paced legal environment, we would love to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities: Bookkeeping Functions, including: Maintain accurate records of financial transactions by setting up accounts, posting transactions, and ensuring compliance with legal requirements. Manage subsidiary accounts through the verification, allocation, and posting of transactions. Reconcile entries to ensure subsidiary accounts are balanced and accurate. Maintain the general ledger by transferring summaries from subsidiary accounts. Assist in defining various product and operational costs. Maintain historical financial records through proper filing of both hard copy and electronic documents. Perform Balance Sheet reconciliations. Assist with month-end reporting processes. Fixed Asset Functions, including: Assist with maintaining the Fixed Asset Register. Support the timely capitalisation of fixed assets. Creditors and Debtors Functions, including: Process supplier and customer invoices accurately. Reconcile creditors accounts against supplier statements. Prepare creditor payments and ensure timely processing. Obtain the necessary authorisation for payments exceeding the plants authorised limit. Intercompany Transaction Management, including: Process intercompany invoices. Reconcile intercompany balances accurately. Minimum Requirements: Qualifications & Experience: Certificate or Diploma in Business Administration, Accounting, or Bookkeeping. Minimum of 13 years experience as a Junior Bookkeeper or in a similar role. Sound knowledge of creditors, debtors, and general bookkeeping principles. Working knowledge of SAP and EMA systems. Proficient in Microsoft Office and purchasing software. Skills & Personal Attributes: Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities. Good planning and organisational skills. Ability to work independently and within a team environment. Strong work ethic and sense of responsibility. High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
