About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Lab Technician to join our team in Johannesburg, where you will be responsible for maintaining and operating our GCMS systems, conducting analytical tasks, and supporting lab management. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of our analytical results.

Key Responsibilities

Check operational parameters of GCMS systems
Perform mass spectrometer tuning checks
Inspect gas lines and pressure levels
Monitor vacuum pump performance
Conduct daily testing of samples
Verify analytical balance calibration (weekly)
Ensure GCMS systems are functioning optimally at all times (continuous)
Receive and log samples for analysis
Handle and prepare samples according to procedures
Conduct sample analysis in line with company standards
Evaluate data and compile reports
Assist with product development
Support QC Manager with quality control of raw materials and final products
Manage stock and record consumables (valves, columns, pipette tips, gas supplies)
Report low stock levels and place orders according to procedures
Assist in method development with the Analytical Instrumentation Manager
Evaluate and source analytical equipment and consumables
Ensure correct operation and maintenance of all equipment

Requirements

BSc Degree (or studying towards Honours) in Biochemistry or Analytical Chemistry
13 years relevant experience (advantageous and preferred)
Strong GCMS systems experience
