About the Role

Communicate Finance is seeking a seasoned Development Manager to lead and stabilize their development function in a complex, regulated environment. This senior leadership role focuses on delivery reliability, production stability, and maintaining strong engineering standards. The ideal candidate will oversee development delivery, manage and mentor developers, and ensure technical decisions align with business and client needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leading and managing the development department in a delivery-driven environment
  • Overseeing planning, prioritization, and execution of development work
  • Ensuring delivery timelines are met while maintaining technical quality
  • Managing workloads, risks, dependencies, and production stability
  • Maintaining development standards, code review practices, and release discipline
  • Providing technical leadership around design, architecture, and problem-solving
  • Supporting and mentoring developers through regular performance discussions
  • Identifying skills gaps and development needs within the team
  • Ensuring documentation, processes, and technical standards remain current

Requirements

  • Minimum 8–10+ years’ experience in software development
  • Minimum 3–5+ years’ experience in a development management or leadership role
  • Proven experience managing development teams in a delivery-focused environment
  • Strong understanding of the full software development lifecycle
  • Experience with release management, production risk, and delivery governance
  • Ability to engage technically (architecture discussions, code reviews, solution design)
  • Experience in the short-term insurance industry (strongly preferred)
  • Confident communicator who can work across technical and business stakeholders
